Is this the right barcode?
Books (print, ebooks and audiobooks) need an ISBN barcode: order from this page.
Magazines need an ISSN instead: magazine barcodes.
Everything else needs an EAN or UPC: retail barcode packages.
Printing your barcode
Size: supplied at about 38mm × 25mm. You can shrink it to 80% (about 30mm × 20mm), but no smaller. Dimensions guide
Placement: lower-right corner of the back cover, with clear space around it.
Colour: dark bars on a white or very light background. Avoid red bars or printing over artwork.
Price codes (optional)
A small five-digit code can be added beside your barcode to show the price, for example £9.99 as 00999. It isn’t common for UK books, and most scanners ignore it, so only add one if a retailer asks. If you need one, add the price in the additional information section at checkout. Price-coded barcodes are made by hand and emailed within 12–24 hours.
Common questions
How many do I need? One per ISBN. Hardback, paperback and each ebook format all have their own ISBN, so each needs its own barcode.
Can I change my price later? Yes. A standard ISBN barcode doesn’t include a price, so it never needs updating. Only price-coded barcodes do.
Will it work worldwide? Yes. EAN-13 is the international standard for books.
My ISBN is only 10 digits. Email us, and we’ll convert it to 13 digits.
