Do you need one?
Only if a retailer, distributor or warehouse asks for it. ITF-14s are scanned when stock arrives at a warehouse, not at the checkout. If you’re selling direct or to small shops, you probably don’t need one.

How it’s made
Your ITF-14 is your product barcode with an extra digit at the front and a new check digit at the end. For example, EAN 0799439079083 becomes ITF-14 10799439079080.
The middle twelve digits stay the same, so it’s easy to match each carton code to its product.

Printing your carton barcode
Where: print directly onto the outer carton, on at least two adjacent sides.
Border: keep the thick border (bearer bar) around the barcode.
Size: ITF-14s are larger than product barcodes and have their own size rules. ITF-14 specifications
Never put an ITF-14 on the product itself. That’s what your EAN-13 is for.
Common questions
How many do I need? One for each product in each carton size. A case of 6 and a case of 24 of the same product need different codes.
Can I make several carton codes from one product barcode? Yes, up to ten. Each uses a different leading digit. Tell us your carton sizes at checkout, and we’ll make sure each one gets the right code.
My product has a UPC-A, not an EAN-13. That’s fine. It works the same way.
I don’t have a product barcode yet. You’ll need one first. Add a retail barcode package to the same order.
